We are a non-denominational campus ministry in Johnson City, TN focused on reaching college students for Jesus Christ, building them in their faith, and sending them out with the hope of the gospel. We are unique to the Tri-Cities and not affiliated with any other larger organization.
The Well began back in 1998 when 7 students began praying for their campus and decided to start a Bible study on Wednesday nights. God has answered those prayers as we are now starting our 23rd year of ministry. We are so grateful to have impacted thousands of lives for the sake of the gospel!
We have outreach and discipleship opportunities daily, but our most visible presence is our large weekly worship gathering on Wednesday nights. We meet each Wednesday at the The King’s Centre (300 E. Main St #200) at 7pm and 9pm. Worship and teaching lasts from 7-8:15pm and 9-10:15pm.
We are constantly monitoring the impact of COVID-19 on our campus and community, and consulting health experts. Our desire is to continue to minister to students, point them to Christ, and encourage them through this challenging season. It is also a priority to keep students safe. This fall we have added two back-to-back services (7pm and 9pm) and changed our location to The King’s Centre to accommodate social distancing. We are also following ETSU’s mandatory requirement for face coverings at all gatherings. We ask that students RSVP each week because our venue has a limited capacity and we want to be certain that everyone has a seat!
Everyone is welcome at our weekly worship gathering on Wednesday nights! For freshmen, we also have a special ministry called Class ’24 which offers small group Bible studies every Sunday and Monday night. Upperclassmen are invited to serve on our leadership teams, called ministry teams, where they can serve in missions, small group leadership, events, and hospitality. Applications for ministry teams are available toward the end of the spring semester to serve the following academic year. We have around 70 students who serve on our leadership teams. We also have lots of outreach events, service opportunities, intramurals, mission chats, and mission trips throughout the year.
At this time, we do not plan to post a video of the weekly gathering. Our desire is for students to participate in-person as much as possible! Please RSVP to guarantee that you will have a seat! Should classes move online due to COVID-19, we will adapt like we did in the spring to make worship gatherings available online.
We will post a Podcast of our weekly sermons each Thursday morning. You can find them HERE
The Well is a faith-supported ministry and relies 100% on the gifts of individuals, families, alumni, businesses, and churches to make ministry possible. We are a 501c3 non-profit ministry, and all gifts are tax-deductible. Anyone can give to The Well using our website or mailing in donations. Every gift matters to us!
You might have heard that we recently bought a former nightclub on West Walnut Street. We are currently in the process of raising funds to build a permanent home for The Well and a trendy, collegiate coffee shop! To learn more, visit thewell2020.com.
As we start the year, the safety of our staff and students is extremely important to us. At all Wednesday night gatherings, we are taking the following measures: reducing capacity and requiring an RSVP from students, socially distancing chairs 6 feet apart at the gathering, and requiring masks at all times. Our team will be sanitizing all chairs and highly touched surfaces prior to the start of each service. Since we are requiring RSVPs this year, we will have a list of all students present at our gathering for purposes of contact tracing. For small groups at The Well, we will be reducing the size of these groups to no more than 8 students or staff. We will be requiring masks to be worn and socially distancing.
